Nowhere vs Now here

II  want to take us to Genesis chapter 28; today, and it is here that we will hang out; for within this chapter God has deposited into my spirit a word for you today;

The message really begins with verse 2 “Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.”

Verse 2 begins with a Father's  charge / commission to a son “Arise, go”
This decision coming from a father to a son must have been heart wrenching, for you see Jacob was someone who in today's society would be known as a “mommy's boy” his older brother was Esau;

The bible describes Esau as a hunter and gatherer; meaning it came natural for Esau to leave his home and be gone for days, dealing with all sort of things out in the desert living off the land per say.

While Jacob stayed close by at home, tending to the everyday household chores, and being close by to see his father's health declining, and it was so that Jacob began to devise and carry out a plan to trick his brother Esau into giving up his birth right to Jacob; so it was put into action the day that Esau came back from a hunting trip; hungry and tired, Jacob sat before Esau a bowl of portage, and from the dinner table a birth right was traded, Jacob and his mother than began to devised a plan to trick Isaac his father into giving Jacob his blessing instead of Esau the eldest son;

So fast forward in this story, Esau is fired up mad at his brother so mad he is determined to kill him, so when word get's to the ears of his father, his father is willing to send a son who really has zero clue what it takes to kill an animal for food and clothing as did Esau, nor which berry to eat or to stay away from...but verse 2 open's with a charge from a father to a son “Arise, go”
Flee from your brother Esau and head to your uncles house. As far away as possible.
Padan Aram – why Padan Aram? this place is a District of Mesopotamia, also known as {Cultivated field or table land; best known for as a caravan route} meaning this route was used very frequently, so Jacob's father felt at ease sending his youngest son this way.
Who is Bethuel; youngest son of Nahor / Nephew of Abraham / Father of Laban / Jacob's uncle.

Verse 10; I like to call this verse “The chronicles of Jacob's trip”
 “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went towards Haran.”
Beersheba to Haran – 3318.3 miles, travel duration is around 106.81 hours; if your traveling speed is 50 kilometers per hour or 31.07 mph
Here is how Jacob's trip speed is broke down;
At a fast pace = 7 minutes per kilometers or 11 minuets per mile.
At a Moderate pace = 10 minuets per kilometers or 15 minuets per mile.
At an Easy pace = 12.5 minuets per kilometers or 20 minuets per mile.
Jacob's trip isn't on a smooth blacktopped highway; Nope; a desert road full of ups and downs, twists and turns, slow going is the best pace, remember this route was used by caravans (and no not the dodge caravan).

I can remember the year Vanessa and I took a family trip to Las Vegas, I had mentioned to someone about going to California from Vegas, they told me to make sure my gas tank was full before we started out across the desert, for there is hundreds of miles without anywhere to stop and get gas, as a matter of fact they even said it was a good idea to bring an extra can of gas with us.
“Because you sure don't want to get stranded out there alone on a deserted desert highway.” needless to say we didn't get to go see California that trip.

So can you imagine what was going through Jacob's mind at the time he left his father's house to escape the threat of his older brother;
Keep in mind Jacob's past; without going to deep, he was a mamma's boy; his hands didn't see much hard work, but his brother's hands sure did, so Jacob always stayed around the house while big brother spent days and nights away hunting;
So here is a mommies boy all grown up being sent on a life saving journey heading from a town called Beersheba heading towards his uncles house in Padan Aram.

Listen; We are all on a journey somewhere, and some of us like Jacob are running from a past; and like Jacob we are constantly on the move, and not slowing down enough to hear God's voice. And it took a 3318.3 mile trip to slow Jacob down enough to hear from God.

Verse 11 says; “So he came to a certain place” Listen; you may be running from whatever is haunting you, but trust me when I Jacob you will come to a certain place,

What is that place? Only God knows “That certain place”!

Listen; many of us feel that we are Nowhere....but may I share something with you today?

Lately the enemy has pledged my mind with thought's like this;

You are going Nowhere in your walk with God.
Your church is going Nowhere in this community, just look at all you try to do for them, and all I do is send them in to steal from you.
Your youth is going Nowhere, your kids Nowhere, the adults they sit and go Nowhere.
And so on and so fourth.....the same tape is rewound and played again and again. Can I say something here though; during this 21 days of fasting; a word came to me about my hearing and to allow the circumcising of my ears so that I might hear God's voice. And I was sitting the other morning when I heard the topic of today's message,

I came to “My certain place” many of you may still running “Spiritually” as well as “physically”; thinking if I can keep going I'll get somewhere; listen I was on both accounts, thinking if I keep myself busy and occupied doing the work of God then I'll keep the devil away, but little did I know then, but I do now, the more busier I was the less I had time for the slowing down resting time with God that I needed; it took a word to come to me to make me realize that my ears had grown closed to the voice of God, when I stopped at my certain place, it was there that I finally said “God I am here to hear from you”
but listen you may or may not have reached your certain place but I will say this; God has a way to cause us to stop for the night!
Picking back up on verse 11 “So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.”
The amazing thing to me is that the bible doesn't record where on his journey Jacob was when he reached this certain place, the bible just records “So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night.” Jacob could have been to a point where he felt that he should just turn around and go back, keep going forward meant that he would meet the uncertain. Maybe he felt that he was Nowhere, just existing; really making no difference in the world;

Here is what I came here today for!

Listen; we all have felt that way a time or two; but I'm here to tell you that what God has started he will finish it!
Jacob had a purpose, he had meaning, he was created for such a season as this;
look with me to verse 12 “Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”

Notice something here! The order in which the angels of God where moving on the ladder;

“Ascending and Descending” in other words moving from “Earth to Heaven” you might say “So what? What's so noticeable about that?

Now this represents; The providence of God, by which there is a constant correspondence kept up between heaven and earth.
Providence does its work gradually, and by steps.
This ladder also represents; The mediation of Christ, He is this ladder one foot on earth the other in heaven in his divine nature.
The bible tells us that “Receive this truth; Whatever you forbid on earth will be considered to be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will be considered to be released in heaven. (The passion version)
also in the same book it says; “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Why am I pointing this action out?

The angels were ascending from earth to heaven setting in motion God's will for Jacob here on earth as he had planned for Jacob in heaven;

So how is this important?

Because; no matter how far we run or act like we are not interested in the things of God, God started the plan for you and me while we were in our mother's womb, and no mater if we feel we are Nowhere, listen;

God is about to do something that is so amazing and so exciting in the life of Jacob that it is mind blowing!

During Jacob's dream God teaches him that he (God) is a continual God, a God that was from the beginning of time and is the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac, and Jacob; no matter how you have tricked yourself into the blessings of your father, I am your God who has created in you My purpose and I will see it accomplished. this is meant as a reassurance to Jacob, that God is his God as well, even while we were sinners, Christ died for us. So you see in your life you may have “Tricked” yourself into a blessing, or have done sinful things, this tells me that God is our God as well if we but trust in him and receive his Son. God never gives up on us he is relentless when it comes to his children.

And then what does God do?
Send judgment on Jacob? No; on the contrary..... He pronounces a promise on him;

Listen; people can “pronounce a blessing on you”

Only God can pronounce a promise!

Look at the promise that was passed onto Jacob while he slept;

“The land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

(in your life whatever lie the devil has told you; honey; what God has started he will see it through, it ain't over until God says it's over)

Are you ready for the finish of my message?

Look at what happens next as I close today out;

Jacob's epiphany happens; “Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”
and he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel.”

In closing watch this;

To Jacob “this certain place” a NOWHERE place; all God did in Jacob's life as he will do for us....God is the only one who can take a NOWHERE and separate the “W” from the “H” and make it a NOW HERE place!

God is in this place NOW! He's in YOUR place NOW! That's why Jacob renamed that place to “Bethel” the house of God!
You understand church; my fight isn't against those who come to steal from this place, No; my fight is against powers and principalities who think they are the ones who are in control of High Praise Victory Center, my prayer through this 21 day fast has been that God would show me and you that he has separated the “W” of Nowhere and the “H” of here and changed this place to a Now Here church !

But my question to you is?

Do we recognize as Jacob did...........“Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” and he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

listen; the vision that was given to Jacob is also for us here today; we need to understand that heaven is at work in our lives, releasing from earth to heaven those things we want to release, and the providence of God, by which there is a constant correspondence kept up between heaven and earth.

Please don't allow your ears to wax over; keep that line of communication open between you and God almighty so you can hear what he is saying to you.

For the bible tells us; “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the spirit is saying to the church.”

please remember this. if you don't remember anything else in my message today; God can take your Nowhere and make it a Now Here place!                                                 Pastor Brian
